EXCEPTIONAL
MATERIALS

In every one of our schools at LBS, each item is carefully chosen to make learning entertaining and engaging for all our students!

Well-stocked cupboards of craft and science material, a plethora of

gardening tools, art material (glitter, coloured paper and card, pencils and crayons, water colours) and equipment for cooking.

We have high-quality exercise mats for activities like yoga and gymnastics, English-language board games and even a traditional children’s tea set, to introduce our students to the very important tradition of afternoon tea !

All these materials are sensitively curated for each and every activity, so that LBS students are able to unleash their creativity throughout our classes.

The exceptional materials that we make available for our students relate to our original programs, which have at their heart a belief in patient and playful approach to learning English.

SCREEN-FREE
LEARNING

Where the use of screens in education is on the rise, we want to provide an alternative at LBS.

At LBS we respectfully decline to use modern technology in our teaching programs, and this includes the use of screens.

Why is this?

First, we place an emphasis on person-to-person learning. Quite aside from the numerous studies which show that person-to-person language learning is incomparably more effective than screen-based learning, we believe simply that person-to-person learning is more enjoyable, for students and teachers alike!

Secondly, we want children at LBS to feel that they have the teacher’s full attention when learning a language, without the complex distractions of modern technology.

Finally, we want our schools to be a safe space for learners, where they can find their own rhythm when it comes to learning English, free from the pressures of modern technology.

BESPOKE
CLASSROOMS

Because the physical space in which we learn is just as important to the process as anything else!

When children (and indeed their parents) enter one of our schools, we want them to feel calm and collected, and at ease, ready to dive into an English-speaking world of humour and creativity.

This is why we pay attention to the smallest details: the warm, carefully positioned light fixtures; discreet storage space, which allows for a sense of an ‘unfolding’ classroom when lessons begin; old-fashioned style tables which fold out from the walls, open bookshelves to showcase our material, even the taps and soap holders were chosen with care.

It’s the little details that matter – even the choice of posters on the walls, from Beatles albums to old railway advertisements, provides children with a light introduction to the richness of British culture and history.

We also want learners to feel that our schools are places of creativity and joy, which is why you will find colourful, ‘English-style’ wallpaper in every one of our schools, inspired by the abundance of the natural world.

INSPIRING
NATIVE TEACHERS

It goes without saying that all our teachers at LBS are native speakers of English.

Hailing from England, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland, and Canada, our inspiring, experienced teachers make the schools what they are: warm, welcoming, and diverse learning environments.

Though our team of teachers work to foster the philosophy and original teaching programs of LBS (we are all working towards the same goal of helping children learn English) everyone brings to the table their own style and approach, which makes for a successful and enjoyable learning environment.

ORIGINAL
PROGRAMS

All of our learning programs are the original work of our team of teachers.

The programs that we use for learning English we make ourselves, which is why they are labours of love.

Organised chronologically from week to week throughout the trimester, every lesson is meticulously planned out, tailor made for every year group, according to our Five Stage model for Language Growth and Development.

Though our programs are ‘homemade’, they are firmly grounded in established educative methods, including Montessori.

Indeed, many of our teachers hail from such professional backgrounds.

In the programs for our younger students, for example, there is a greater emphasis on movement, repetition and manual activities. We sing traditional songs, use simple clear instructions, and hone fine motor skills. Arts and crafts also take center stage by providing a brilliant foundation for learning-by-doing.

The older the students, the more complex the programs in terms of the English content, including introduction of written exercises.

Each week has a chosen theme, which in some cases is a festival such as ‘Halloween’ or even the work of a famous artist, for example ‘Van Gogh’s Sunflowers’. At LBS, we want to create a sense of structure and continuity around learning English, so that learners feel in safe hands.

This is why think through our programs with such care and sensitivity. However, we also want to give children and teachers the freedom to choose, and this means adapting here and there according to the needs and interests of our learners.

It is this openness of approach that has proven the most effective when it comes to learning and teaching English! And it goes without saying: no two lessons at LBS are the same…
